European Artificial Intelligence Act

Acronym : AI Act

The AI Act is the EU regulation that classifies AI systems by risk level (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal) and imposes proportionate obligations, notably on transparency and risk management, for the most sensitive uses.

Why it matters

Any company developing or using AI in Europe must now assess which risk category its use cases fall into, or face sanctions that can reach several percent of global revenue.

Concrete example

A company using an AI system to screen job applications identifies this use case as high-risk under the AI Act and documents its control measures.
